EFL / ESL Teaching Tip: Collocations
Collocates are words that occur near a given word (the node word), and they can provide very useful insight into the meaning and usage of the words by which they occur.

Phonics vs. Whole Word
Although I believe that sight words are a good start for understanding vocabulary words that may show up in a higher frequency, I do not agree with only teaching sight words. In my opinion, it is the worst way to teach a child to read. Phonics are so much better. This video will show you why.
My next series of blog posts will focus on learning phonics. As a teacher, I can attest to the fact that students who know, understand, and apply phonics are my strongest readers.
